The new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, has unveiled plans for a 100-day, university-wide consultation to set the tone for her administration’s open-door policy and to drive a new eight-pillar strategic agenda.
Badejo, who assumed office as LASU’s 10th substantive Vice-Chancellor on Monday, said the consultation would take her administration to faculties, schools, centres, institutes and directorates across the university’s Ojo, Epe, Ikeja and Badagry campuses.
Staff and student unions will also be part of the engagement, which she said was designed to ensure that members of the university community have a voice in shaping and implementing the administration’s priorities.
The Vice-Chancellor announced the plan over the weekend while addressing the Committee of Provosts, Deans and Directors (COPDD) at the Senate Chamber.
She described the COPDD as the university’s most strategic academic leadership committee after the Senate and charged its members to champion the administration’s priorities in their respective units.
The eight-pillar agenda focuses on academic excellence and quality assurance; research, innovation and global visibility; financial sustainability and resource mobilisation; infrastructure and digital transformation; staff welfare and industrial harmony; student welfare, mentorship and employability; governance, integrity and institutional visibility; and community engagement and societal impact.
She also promised to strengthen solution-driven research and expand international research partnerships as part of efforts to improve LASU’s global visibility and ranking profile.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university would explore grants, endowments, consultancy services and strategic partnerships to diversify its income and improve financial sustainability.
On digital transformation, she announced plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools in teaching and administration across the university’s campuses.
She also set a one-year target to establish at least one smart classroom in every faculty.
Staff development and welfare will form another component of the agenda, with the administration promising merit-based capacity building, inclusive dialogue with unions and measures to sustain industrial harmony.
For students, Badejo identified mentorship, employability and mental health support as key areas requiring greater institutional attention.
She also pledged to strengthen governance, integrity and institutional visibility while deepening the university’s relationship with its host communities and wider society.
Badejo urged COPDD members to embrace inclusive leadership and an open-door approach, stressing that the administration’s vision could be achieved only through collective responsibility.
She said the 100-day consultation would provide an opportunity to listen to concerns, identify institutional priorities and build broad ownership of the strategic agenda.
The Vice-Chancellor said the ultimate goal was to position LASU as a globally competitive, locally relevant and future-ready university.
