The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, has urged students sitting the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination to steer clear of examination malpractice.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Alli-Balogun emphasised the importance of integrity and discipline, reminding students that the examination period—running from April 24 to June 20—should be approached with focus and honesty.
“We’ve provided all the necessary tools and learning support. It’s now up to the students to approach the exercise with a positive mindset and avoid peer pressure or malpractice that could jeopardise their future,” he said.
The commissioner cited the Eko Learners’ Support Programme as a key initiative, offering 320 televised and online lessons in 10 core subjects, including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Yoruba.
He also mentioned new strategies aimed at improving teaching outcomes, such as mandating school principals and vice principals to teach six to eight periods per week.
“The Sanwo-Olu administration is intentional about academic excellence and committed to enhancing performance in major national examinations,” Alli-Balogun noted.
He added that all learning materials align with both the Lagos State curriculum and the syllabuses for WASSCE and the National Examination Council exams, which begin June 16.
