Lagos, Ogun Students Win 2025 Cowbellpedia Maths Contest

A student of St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, Kenechukwu Azuike and that of Welkins International School, Ota, Ogun State, Peace Adewole, have emerged star prize winners of the 2025 Cowbellpedia Secondary Schools Mathematics Quiz Competition.

The former won the senior school category while the latter won the junior category and each received N5 million and was also entitled to an all-expense-paid trip to Kenya.

Their schools were given projectors for producing them.

Cowbellpedia has been running for many years, starting as the Cowbell National Secondary School Mathematics Competition (NASSMAC) in 1998 before being rebranded as Cowbellpedia.

The competition, organised and sponsored by Promasidor Nigeria Limited, the producers of Cowbell Milk, aims at promoting STEM education, especially the study of mathematics, among secondary school students in the country.

Speaking at the grand finale and award presentation, the Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria, Francois Gillet, commended participating students for demonstrating strong interest and skills in mathematics, congratulating them on their participation.

He emphasised that the competition is not only to inspire youths but also to empower them for relevance now and in the future.

According to him, the company would not renege on this drive; rather, step up its investment in the development of STEM education in Nigeria.

Giving details about the competition, the company’s Marketing Director, Adebola Williams, noted that the competition lasted 14 weeks from the preliminary to the final stage.

He disclosed that over 5,000 students aged 11 to 17 years participated in the computer-based test (CBT) at the preliminary stage, from which the figure was pruned down at different stages to leave only eight for the finals.

He explained that aside from rewarding the star prize winners, the trio of Fopefoluwa Adegboye, Prince Orji, and Lyon Awhaisoba, who won the second, third and fourth positions in the senior category, also received N3 million, N2 million and N500,000, respectively, for their efforts.

On the junior category, he added, Haruna Salvin, Onyema Alexis, and Anyaeji Arthur won the second, third and fourth positions and they received N3 million, N2 million, and N0.5 million respectively, for their efforts, respectively.

“We also rewarded teachers of the two overall winners- Mr. Bayode Samuel (senior category) and Stephen Egbeyemi (junior category) with N1 million and a laptop each, while two parents- Messrs Beckley Adebayo and Remi Adegboye also collected N500,000 each for answering questions given to parents correctly and with speed,” he stressed.

Giving remarks, the quizmaster, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, commended the students’ resilience and speed in answering the questions, saying this year’s competition really showed an improvement of students’ mastery of mathematics over the previous editions, urging them to continue to give their studies deserve priority.
