The Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has sponsored the registration of about 1,000 students for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
The Chairman of the council, Adetola Abubakar, presented the registration forms to the beneficiaries during an event held at the council secretariat on Monday.
He assured the students of adequate support to ensure thorough preparation for the examination.
The event, which marked the inauguration of the initiative, was attended by other top council officials.
Speaking during the presentation, Abubakar commended the students for taking their education seriously and encouraged them to maximise the opportunity.
“I’m happy that you want to forge ahead in your education. I’m happy that you have seen an opportunity and you’re making great use of it.
“It’s one thing to offer you the JAMB forms; it’s another thing for you to take them up with full commitment and prepare adequately for the examination,” she said.
She noted that the beneficiaries had passed through a screening process, expressing confidence in their readiness.
“This is an opportunity that can make you a better person in life. Many people would have wished to be here today, but do not have this chance. You must ensure that it counts,” she added.
The chairman also assured the students that the council would not stop at providing the forms but would monitor their preparation.
“The examination is fast approaching. We won’t just give you the forms and leave you on your own; we will follow up to ensure you are well prepared,” she said.
Abubakar further promised to celebrate outstanding performances and support the students in their academic journey.
“If you do very well and make us proud, we will celebrate you and support your next line of action in your education.”
Encouraging academic excellence, she urged the candidates to aim high.
“I want to see 400. I want to see 350 UTME scores. You can do it,” she urged the beneficiaries.
She emphasised that education remained a critical pathway to a secure future and a means of overcoming poverty.
“It is very important to take your education seriously. It is the only way to secure your future and uplift your family,” she said.
Abubakar also motivated the female students to strive for excellence and compete confidently with their male counterparts.
“Women and girls, you can also excel. Don’t leave it all to the boys,” she added.
