The chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Prince Tijani Olusi, has distributed free GCE forms to final-year secondary school students in the council area.
The council chief said the initiative, which began in 2021, was aimed at encouraging and nurturing the academic ambitions of students within the community.
He urged the students to be proud of their heritage by speaking their mother tongue fluently; adding that mastering their native language could enhance their proficiency in English and other languages.
In a goodwill message, the Lagos Island Local Government education secretary, Alhaji Qudus Abari expressed gratitude to Olusi for this significant opportunity provided to the students. He suggested that before distributing the forms, the local government should consider organizing career talks to better prepare the students for their future endeavors.
He also encouraged the students to engage in vocational skills, which would contribute to the growth of the local economy.
