Kim Kardashian lost an estimated $11 million in jewels when she was robbed at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week in 2016, but she recouped some of the loss through her insurance company, AIG.
TMZ reported Wednesday that the company has now filed a lawsuit seeking $6.1 million — the amount it paid Kardashian for her jewelry, including the 20-carat, Lorraine Schwartz-designed engagement ring given to her by Kanye West. The theft was committed by two men dressed as police officers who stormed the apartment where she was staying, forced her into a bathtub, tied her up, and taped her mouth shut on Oct. 3, 2016.
Per TMZ, the insurance company argues in court documents that during the incident Duvier was at a club with Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner and had left Kim without security.
The lawsuit reportedly alleges that the bodyguard should have fixed various security breaches at the location, such as a missing lock on the building’s front gate and a broken intercom on the door.
AIG did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Following the robbery, Kardashian made changes to her security team, which reportedly included ending her professional relationship with Duvier.
“Pascal, along with a couple other security members of their team, were recently let go by Kim and Kanye,” a source told ET in November 2016. “It’s a pretty tough situation overall, and they love Pascal, but they couldn’t take any more chances.”
Neither the hotel where Kardashian was robbed nor the concierge who was held at gunpoint while he took the robbers to Kardashian’s room are being sued, TMZ noted.
Kardashian was traumatized by the event and even avoided posting photos of expensive items on social media for some time afterward.
