The Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Wednesday, bemoaned the shortage of medical personnel across health facilities in Nigeria.
Okolie equally noted that to forestall such ugly trends in the nursing profession, ESUT has started collaborating with the Enugu State Government to increase the admission quota for the Nursing Sciences Department in the university.
He made the disclosure when the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, TOPREC, and Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, ARCON, came for accreditation of the Urban and Regional Planning, and Architecture Departments of ESUT.
While equally bemoaning the harsh economic realities in Nigeria, especially as they affect the standard of living of the people, he enjoined other vice chancellors to judiciously utilise funds coming into their universities for the development of their institutions.
The chairmen of TOPREC and ARCON accreditation teams, Prof. Bolanle Wahab and Prof. C . B Chukwudi, respectively, while addressing the ESUT management, said they were in ESUT to look at the programmes and check if they were in line with the standards of the professional bodies.
They enjoined the departments concerned to put all the cards on the table to guarantee seamless exercises.
