What were the challenges you encountered starting out in the game?
It’s not really easy to be honest, the stress of trying to be different, coming up with ideas and likes. A lot of challenges, sometimes I’ll feel like giving up. So many things will discourage you but Alhamdulilah.

How did you build up your DJ-ing skills?
I exploited the opportunities that the internet provides. I trained and hone my skills watching YouTube videos.

Did you have any form of training?
Yes I do. That was when I wanted to learn how to scratch so I had to go linkup with the Big Engines (DJs).

How did your parents take it when you told them you want to be a DJ?
My dad wasn’t cool with the idea because he was a disciplinarian and always about school but as a stubborn boy and with the help and support of my mum I was able to achieve my aim.

So how did he react when you started getting buzz?

He was cool with it. All everyone want is success, the reason you have to give whatever you’re doing you 100% and strive to be successful.

Which DJ(s) influenced your works and inspires you?

DJ Humility, DJ Mewsic and DJ Jimmy Jatt.

What sets DJ Enimoney  apart from other DJs?

I am not just a DJ.  There are lots of things people are yet to know about me. I’m yet to unleash other parts of me. Stay tuned!

How long does it take for you to be accepted in the industry?
It took me 7 years. It was a tortuous journey to stardom. I got recognised when I dropped “Oya Dab” ft Olamide.

Have there been any moments when you wished you had chosen another profession?
So many moments, especially when the going was quite tough.

You are great dancer, what is the trick behind your moves?

It comes to me so natural. I listened to the beat and move to it.

How did you worked your way up into the mainstream?

It is with the help of Allah and my brother Olamide.

Can you remember your very first paycheck for mixing or DJing?
LOL… Yes Oooo! It was 2011-2012. I think I got paid N80k for a gig in Ikotun.

What is something that bugs you about the DJ scene?
What annoys me most is the way the industry disrespect DJs.
I feel DJs play the biggest role in the industry but we are yet to be given the respect we deserve. DJs are least appreciated and without DJs, songs or artistes can’t get popular.

Do you think DJs are getting due respect for their contributions to the growth of the music industry like artistes, producers, etc?
We are getting ZERO respect.

How is it like been a brother to the rap star, Olamide? Did his success rubbed off on you in any way?
It’s a great achievement and I don’t think his success has affected me in any way rather it paved way for me. I’m grateful for that.

What is your opinion regarding the difference between old school DJing where mixes are done with vinyl and modern DJing where most tracks are cued from CDs or from the laptop?

You know it’s the 21st century and you don’t expect things to be like the old school days. The idea behind the laptop and controllers, I think it’s dope and it make things easier and faster, getting songs cued.

You have hit songs like Gapa’, ‘Oya Dab’ with Olamide, ‘Diet’ ft Reminisce, Tiwa Savage and Slimcase, among other hit songs.  How did you put together these pieces of good music with musicians you have worked with?

Only my oga at the top understand Alhamdulilah. I give God all the honour. But I believed all the people I have worked with or featured on my songs appreciate my efforts and believed in my ability.

Can you tell us one performance that has been the most memorable for you as a DJ?
The Wobey DJ Tour 2019, OAU Invasion. Damn it’s was lit!

What’s that craziest thing a fan ever did to you?

It was at this show; a lady ran up to me and planted a kiss on my lips. It sure caught me unaware! It was all for love. I do appreciate my fans for the love and their supports.

What are your favourite DJ software and machines?

I’m into the Serato DJ software, Pioneer DJ controller and Technics Turn Tables. They are all top-notch.

What is your take about the current growth we are experiencing in the Nigerian music industry?
It’s a good development. Shout out to everyone who has taken our songs and culture overseas.

If you have the power to erase and abolish one genre of music, which one would you abolish for all eternity?

None.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?
That should be Olamide – Bobo.

What’s the concept behind your Wobey Tour?
The idea was to connect with the students fans and networking overseas.

How do you relax?
Playing with my son.

You recently had a baby boy. How is it like now being a father?

Not bad. Alhamdulilah. It’s quite a special feeling. Fatherhood makes you to be more focused and responsible.

What’s your word of advice for upcoming DJs?
Stays strong don’t give up on your dreams. I know it’s not easy but better days are ahead.
