Nigerian Afrobeats artiste, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has shared details about his pre-show rituals during an interview with Dazed on the sidelines of the Milan Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Diesel.
Speaking about what he does before stepping on stage, Rema said he combines alcohol, cigarettes, prayer, and teamwork to prepare for his performances.
“A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue,” he stated when asked about his pre-show rituals.
He explained that beyond that, he and his team also carry out sound checks to ensure everything is set for a smooth show.
Rema, who recently appeared on the runway for Diesel at the fashion event in Milan, noted that performing music is more demanding than modelling.
“Performing has a lot to do with your breathwork and you have to keep the crowd going,” he said.
On what he has been listening to lately, the singer revealed a shift in taste.
“I have been listening to a lot of Sudanese cultural live music.”
He also admitted that smoking cigarettes is his “biggest vice.”
