Fuel Hike Protest: Southwest Gov Sponsoring Students Against FG, NANS Alleges

…..urges FG to investigate, unravel sponsors

The National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) has alleged that a southwest governor is responsible for the call for protests against the federal government.

In a statement signed by NANS President, Lucky Emonefe and made available to Nigerian Tribune, NANS stated that  investigation by the group revealed that a faction of the students body were being harbored and funded by the alleged southwest governor.

Recall that on Tuesday a faction of the students body had announced  a protest slated to hold on 15th of September , 2024 which the NANS senate president , Afeez Akinteye debunked on Wednesday.

NANS however called on the federal government to launch an investigation and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

“We wish to draw attention to a grave situation involving a faceless individual who has been actively calling for protests against the Federal Government.

Our investigations have revealed that this individual is being harbored and funded by a southwest Government, specifically through his aide.

“We have uncovered that part of this funding is being allocated for a program in Abeokuta scheduled for tomorrow, furthering this individual’s anti-government agenda.

It is alarming that a state government would go to such lengths, utilizing its resources to support and sponsor activities aimed at destabilizing the Federal Government, particularly when this faceless agitator is benefiting from the very administration he seeks to undermine.

“NANS firmly believes that such actions are not only irresponsible but also dangerous.

We call on the said southwest Governor to cease using the students and the NANS platform as a shield to wage his battles against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

If the Governor has grievances with the Federal Government, we urge him to address them directly and transparently, rather than hiding behind student groups to further his agenda.

“We call on President Tinubu to take immediate and decisive action to investigate this matter and hold those responsible accountable.

The unity and stability of our nation must be preserved, and any attempt to use students as pawns in political games must be condemned in the strongest term.

“NANS remains committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students and the broader Nigerian populace.

We will not stand by while our platform is manipulated for purposes that do not serve the interests of our members or the nation”, the statement reads.
