Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Programme (ASSEP), a collaboratiion between Federal Government and Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), is transforming education outcomes in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe.
Launched by Vice President Kashim Shettima on May 18, ASSEP focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Agriculture (STEMA) to drive development and empowerment.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Regional Development, Dr Mariam Masha, led the Project Implementation Team (PIT) on a tour of Bauchi State schools and convened a session with critical actors in the state education sector.
Schools visited include Government Girls, Bauchi; Government Girls Day Secondary School; Kofar-Wambai, and Sa’adu Zungur Model School.
The team inspected science laboratories, ICT centres and interacted with teachers in ASSEP’s black belt teacher training component, among others.
Speaking with stakeholders, Masha lauded them, stressing ASSEP aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s genda to bridge education gap in the region.
“By focusing on STEM, ASSEP prepares pupils for a technologically driven future of economic growth and development, “she said.
Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Jamila Dahiru, said the programme will enhance quality of education.
“The impact is felt in teachers and pupils.We will provide an enabling environment for ASSEP to succeed,” she said.
State President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, Rabiu Shehu hailed ASSEP’s positive results, advocating sustainability and extension to other schools.
