Fed Govt Begins Building Of Solar-Powered Electric Charging Station At UNILORIN

Federal Government has begun work on the building of a state-of-the-art solar-powered electric charging station at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).

A delegation from the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), led by Ogunmola Oloruntola, said this during the team’s visit to the university to introduce the contractor and consultant responsible for the construction of the solar-powered electric charging station to the school’s management.

Oloruntoba assured the university management of the commitment of the team to ensuring the successful execution of the project.

He said the solar-powered charging station would serve as a model for similar projects across the country, thereby contributing to Nigeria’s goal of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable transportation system.

The Vice Chancellor, UNILORIN, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), lauded the Federal Government on its determination to achieve zero-emission through the transition from gas-powered vehicles to electric vehicles.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Bakare-Odunola, Prof Egbewole said the initiative was environmental friendly and had positive health impact.

He added that the initiative would foster academic research and provide students with practical knowledge in renewable energy and electric vehicle technology.

Egbewole noted that the establishment of the solar-powered charging station would enhance research efforts and offer valuable learning opportunities for students and faculty members.

The Project Consultant and representative of Greenarc Global Consultants Ltd, Martins Amough, listed the benefits the charging station would bring to the university community.

He confirmed its potential to supporting research efforts, especially for students and workers of the Faculty of Engineering, who had interest in renewable energy and electric vehicle technology.
