Fake Prospective Corp member Arrested at orientation camp over fake call-up letter
A young man has been expelled from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Nasarawa State after presenting a fake call-up letter.
This was disclosed by the NYSC Coordinator in Nasarawa State, Mrs. Habiba Bappah, during an interview with newsmen at the Orientation Camp in Dan Yamusa.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that shortly after a brief swearing-in ceremony for 2016 Batch B corps members, Bappah said that the suspect has been handed over to the police.
She also said that the man posing as a prospective corps member, showed up at the camp on Thursday, November 24, with the call-up letter discovered to be fake as it was not found on the NYSC system.
According to Bappah who said, “He came with a fake call up letter and he has been handed over to the police.
“The good thing is that we have a biometric system of registration. By the time he thumb-printed and we checked, he had no data.”
She also explained that the biometric system of registration has helped in the exposure of frauds, adding that three other people were expelled from the camp for using proxies for their registration.
According to her, 2,057 corps members were sworn in during the 2016 Batch B orientation exercise in the state, adding that the exercise went on without any major hitches.
“Out of the 2057 corps members, 914 are females while 1143 are males. They have all settled down for camping activities.” she said.
NAN also reports that Bappah went on to urge corps members to abide by the law as well as participate in all the lectures and skills acquisition training programmes as they would be very beneficial to them after their service year.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, confirmed the arrest of the man with the fake call up letter.
Speaking with NAN, he said that investigations were ongoing on the matter.
“I can confirm to you that the young man is in our custody and investigations have commenced to know how he came about the call-up letter,” he said.
The suspect will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigations.
