
The Vice Chancellor of Wesley University Ondo, Ondo state, Rev. Prof. Samuel Sunday Obeka,has warned that any breach of the social vices attracts dare consequences that included suspension, expulsion or prosecution.
Prof Obeka said this during the 16th Matriculation ceremony of the institution, held at Ondo town, Ondo state.
While administering oath of allegiance to the 580 students, for the 2023/2024 academic session, the Vice Chancellor, advised them to always abide by the ideals, rules and regulations of the University.
He warned them to steer clear of all forms of social vices as the faith based school have high level of discipline.
Obeka who urged them to remain resolute and focused to surmount the various challenges they would encounter during their stays in the school, said that the students should count themselves lucky to be admitted into the faith based higher learning as they are many students looking for such opportunity
The Vice Chancellor who said that the university administration will ensure that the students stay in the school remained pleasant, urged them to manage their time well, shun cultism and imbibe Godliness, hard work and excellence.
The Vice Chancellor declared that the faith based school have high level of discipline.
He said that the mission of the university was to provide quality education, foster critical thinking, and produce well-rounded graduates who are equipped with the skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to society.
According to him “the authorities of the institution is working towards producing the best among the university in the country.
Obeka expressed optimism that the institution will soon be ranked among the top ten universities in Africa.
He told the matriculating students to take their lectures seriously; attend classes regularly, actively engage with their lecturers, and seek clarification whenever necessary.
The Vice Chancellor reassured parents and guardians that the security of their wards and properties was guaranteed adding that there will be no delay in the university’s academic calendar.
Obeka who noted that the university had put in place both human and material resources to help them succeed in their studies and other lawful engagements, warned them not to indulge in any untoward behaviours in and outside the school.
He noted that the university is achieving greater academic heights, evidenced by hosting numerous professional bodies and teams, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, among others.
He said that the plans have reached advanced stage to expand the institution’s programmes to include, Medicine and Surgery, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacy, Health Information Science, and more postgraduate programmes.
Obeka added that the new students spread across colleges studying programmes in natural and applied science, social and management science, environmental design and management,
The Vice Chancellor said others include arts, agriculture, food science and technology, health, education and law both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
A matriculant, Abah Ene, said “I feel so good being in Wesley University and grateful to God for being admitted into the University. I’ve always heard about this University, which is why I decided to put it as my first choice in JAMB, and to God be the glory, I got admission.”
Another matriculant , Aladeijebi Itunuola, says “I chose Wesley University because it has always been a good school. I feel so good; I now feel like a true student of the university.”
