Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola, is to establish Centre for Lagos Studies at the state’s university.
The centre is aimed at bridging misinformation gap about Lagos history.
Speaking at a media parley to mark the oba’s 13th coronation and presentation of a research and history centre at Lagos State University (LASU), Aroba of Ikate, Chief Olalekan Bakare, said the initiative arose from the need to have a reference centre for Lagos studies to give migrants and settlers knowledge of evolution and transformational history of major groups in Lagos.
“The centre will bring people face to face with history, culture, geographical location and socio-economic activities of people in Lagos across all five divisions,” he said.
In 2010, he said Elegushi was presented the instrument of appointment, making him the 21st Elegushi and second king of Ikate-Elegushi kingdom, succeeding his father, Oba Yekini Elegushi (Kusenla II).
“Today, 13 years and counting, Oba Elegushi has demonstrated commitment to his people and worked to improve lives of his subjects.
His reign has been characterised by a deep sense of humility, compassion, and genuine desire to serve his people.”
Bakare noted Ikate has witnessed progress in education, healthcare and infrastructure during his 13 years reign.
