Kensington Palace announced this morning, Monday 23 April, that the Duchess of Cambridge is in labour at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London.
The royal couple are already parents to four-year-old Prince George and two-year-old Princess Charlotte.
The baby will be the fifth in line to throne
The Duchess of Cambridge decided against a home birth and opted to welcome her third child in the private Lindo Wing, where the 36-year-old also gave birth to George on 22 July, 2013 and Charlotte on 2 May, 2015.
As is custom with the royal family, Prince William and Kate kept the finer details of their pregnancy to themselves during the past nine months, choosing not to reveal the baby’s gender and exact due date.
All Kensington Palace revealed in advance was that the baby was due in April.
