Don’t Fall For N70K Minimum Wage Scam, NYSC Warns Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that it has received a directive to pay corps members a minimum wage of N70,000.

In a statement on Sunday, NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, described the rumor as “absolute falsehood” and warned corps members and the general public to disregard the information.

The clarification came amidst widespread speculation and excitement among corps members over the rumored minimum wage payment.

Megwa stated that the NYSC has not received any directive from the relevant government agency responsible for wage matters, making it impossible for the scheme to issue any information on the matter.

He also admonished corps members to desist from allowing mischief-makers to mislead them, adding that they should stick to the approved channel and mode of communication within the scheme.

The NYSC spokesperson further warned bloggers and social media influencers to stop issuing statements concerning the management of the scheme without authorization.

Megwa said, “This is absolute falsehood which is far from the truth. No directive has been received from the relevant sector of government responsible for wage matters.

“Corps members already know the approved channel and mode of communication within the scheme and should therefore ignore the directive accordingly.

“The NYSC, by this release, therefore admonishes corps members to desist from allowing mischief-makers who are set on misleading Nigerians from continuing to play on their intelligence.

“Bloggers and social media influencers are warned to stop issuing statements concerning the management of the National Youth Service Corps without authorization.”
