The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced a resolution to resume its Total, Indefinite and Complete Strike (TICS 2.0) on January 12, 2026.
The doctors had warned that the country might soon face another nationwide shutdown of medical services following the federal government’s failure to honour a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the association.
In a statement on X at the weekend, signed by its President, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, NARD disclosed that the move was to press home its demands following resolutions reached at its emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Friday.
The association also announced plans for nationwide protests over unresolved doctors’ welfare issues, with centre-based demonstrations scheduled across hospitals.
The association said the planned industrial action, tagged: “No Implementation, No Going Back”, would resume on Monday, January 12, 2026, unless the government met its outstanding demands.
It noted that the strike was the inevitable result of the Federal Ministry of Health and the federal government ignoring multiple deadlines for implementing the MoU signed with its members.
As part of preparations for the renewed action, the NEC directed presidents of all the 91 NARD centres nationwide to hold congress meetings and subsequently address the media.
The association said the aim was to hold 91 press conferences across the country within seven days to draw attention to doctors’ welfare concerns.
They said the TICS 2.0 would only be reconsidered after the full implementation of its minimum demands.
The demands include the reinstatement of five resident doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja; payment of promotion and salary arrears; and the full implementation of the professional allowance table, with arrears captured in the 2026 budget.
