Didier Drogba Sets Unbelievable Record Following Acquisition Of American Club

Ivorian legend Didier Drogba has set an unbelievable record to become the first player-owner after taking over American club, Phoenix Rising.

The former Chelsea star had earlier retired from playing active football, turning down offers from several clubs and also rejected an offer to join the backroom staff at the Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that Drogba sought advice from Blues owner Roman Abramovich, before making the move to become part of a consortium that will create the Phoenix Franchise in America’s Major League Soccer.

Following the move, the veteran forward insisted that his choice of becoming an owner-player shouldn’t be a problem for the coach Frank Yallop.

Drogba said “As far as the coaching aspect goes, I’m there as a player. There’s no way I can say to the manager that he has to play me. I’m not going to interfere in his decisions or his responsibilities”.

“As a co-owner, I will have a say on things like new signings and making proposals about what is best for the club.

“I will carry on playing but my main focus is building and helping Phoenix to become a big team in the MLS.”

During his hay days, Didier Drogba was renowned for his strong displays in front of goal, helping Chelsea to quite a number of success during his time.
