Thirty students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), have secured automatic employment opportunities upon graduation following an educational tour of the Dangote Refinery and Fertilizer Plant in Lagos facilitated by the university’s management.
The development was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor of FUTO, Professor Nnenna Oti, who revealed that the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, approved the employment offer after interacting with the students and in recognition of the Vice-Chancellor’s exemplary integrity, dedication to national service and contributions to humanity.
According to Professor Oti, the students participated in a guided tour of the world-class refinery and fertilizer complex between June 14 and 16, 2026, where they were exposed to cutting-edge industrial processes, innovation and practical applications of science and technology.
She stated that the offer represents a significant boost to graduate employability and underscores the importance of strategic collaboration between higher institutions and industry in preparing young Nigerians for productive careers.
The Vice-Chancellor described the gesture as a remarkable honour not only to the students and the university but also to the nation’s educational system, noting that it reflects growing confidence in the quality of graduates being produced by Nigerian universities.
The development further highlights the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening science, technology and innovation-driven education through policies and investments aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Nigerian graduates in the global economy.
The educational tour aligns with ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry, providing students with practical exposure and opportunities that support the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in youth empowerment, skills development and job creation.
Stakeholders have described the employment offer as a testament to the value of experiential learning and a positive example of how partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector can contribute to national development.
