COSCHARIS Group has said that there is huge potential in technology if fully and functionally adopted in the country.
As such, the firm has called on the Federal Government to ensure full adoption of technology across sectors of the economy.
Speaking during the official unveiling of CosTech Academy in Lagos, the President and Chairman, Coscharis Group, Cosmos Maduka, argued that the world is moving towards electrification and everything revolves around technology and so the need for the country to invest seriously in technology.
Maduka said the academy is an effort by the group organisation to give back to society by empowering young people with the skills they need to be competitive.
He said the company is in partnership with two internationals, including the NCC in the UK, and Konic Media, an Indian ICT skill grooming company to ensure that participants at the academy get the best quality education they need for the 21st-century workplace.
The Chairman said the academy is also affiliated with about 45 universities via NCC education, stressing that there will be certifications as well as BSc award for successful students of the academy.
On his part, the Managing Director, Coscharis Technologies, Emomine Mukoro, said the academy has been an idea conceived many years ago that has now come to fruition.
Mukoro said the academy would accept applications from those who can read and write.
“We are not looking for PhD holders or degree holders alone. It starts from those that can read and write. From the primary school level, we want to start building technology in the minds of our young ones. There are no age limits. You can be 100 years old and there is training for you. There is value that technology will give to your life,” he stated.
He said participants are at liberty to choose any form of certification they want to complete, stressing that securing the licence from foreign institutions costs millions of dollars. He said students are expected to pay a fee for the courses.
According to him, the knowledge the academy will transfer to the students has the potential to transform the economy as well, given that the empowered students would go on to create new jobs or take up technical positions that organisations are not able to fill before now. It is also critical for Nigeria to channel its focus on technology adoption given that the oil revenue of the country remains unsustainable and responsible for much of the volatility and inflation across the sectors.
On how the CosTech Academy training will impact the country, Mukoro, who also said investments in the programme has run into millions of dollars, noted that it would positively transform Nigeria by bridging the knowledge gap in technology.
“If you look at what is happening globally, you will see what technology has done. I just came back from China, if you see what technology has done to China, you will agree with me that Nigeria needs to embrace what countries like China have embraced. Our focus on oil is gradually dimming out. So, when you want to increase your economy today, you have to look at technology. The likes of Artificial Intelligence is changing the landscape. So, Nigerians cannot be left out. We know that there is a knowledge gap and that gap is what we have come to close,” Mukoro stated.
He said that the academy differentiates itself by offering a comprehensive range of training, including management courses adding that the first 100 students will receive a 45 per cent discount, and classes are set to start on November 1, 2023.
The facilitators of the Academy come from India, China, and Nigeria, with the managing director being one of the facilitators because of background in training.
