Chelsea duo Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel seal win for Nigeria
Chelsea duo Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel inspired Nigeria to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Algeria in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier.
Moses, who is reborn at Stamford Bridge under manager Antonio Conte, opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a smart right-footed finish after some suspect defending from the Algerians.
Twenty minutes later Mikel scored only his second ever international goal when he beat the offside trap after more defensive woes from Algeria to fire the ball past hapless Rais M’Bolhi in goal.
Algeria, who had Leicester City duo Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani starting in attack, pulled one back through Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb in the 67 minute but Moses sealed the win in injury time after a free-flowing counter attack.
