Check Your Withheld WASSCE Results Now, WAEC Directs Candidates, Schools

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has advised schools or candidates whose May\June Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results are being withheld over various reported cases of malpractice to check their statuses on the council’s portal.

The organisation says that is the only way they can know the update if they had lodged complaint and proved their innocence in the last two weeks whether their withheld results have been released or investigations are still unconcluded.

Recall that a total of 215,267 (representing 11.92%) out of the total 1,805,216 candidates, who sat the school-based exam have their results withheld for various cases of malpractice during the exam and that their cases under investigations to determine if those results will be released or not.

Recall also that the council has given opportunity to those affected and wanted speedy attention to lodge a complaint using a dedicated portal to prove their innocence as a form of fair hearing for them.

Giving an update on the withheld results since most of the affected candidates rely on the results for ongoing admissions into tertiary schools and apprehensive on the development , the council’s spokesperson, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, told Nigerian Tribune that investigations were still ongoing.

She noted that schools or candidates, who had complained to WAEC through its dedicated portal and proved their innocence of the offence leveled against them have had their results released.

She said though she didn’t have their number as at the time of the interview, it is certain that those who lodged complaints have been attended to.

She pointed out those whose cases are pending among them mean there are strong evidence against them that require further investigations on their cases

“So, schools or candidates in that category would have to wait a bit longer with the rest who have not bothered to lodge any complain as regards their withheld results,” she added.

According to her, they will wait until the National Examination Committee meets on or before early October when the matter concerning withheld results of this year’s May\June diet would be brought to an end for the year.

She said though WAEC knows the importance of candidates’ results and the essence of time concerning their admission into universities or any other school, the council would thoroughly investigate the entire cases one after the other through the committee set up for the purpose and would not rush into concluding the assignment.

But WAEC would want to assure those concerned that the waiting time won’t be long as this kind of matter has a time frame,” she concluded.
