The 51-year-old is taking her love of high fashion to the next level, experimenting with wigs, dramatic makeup and daring couture creations in a bold new photoshoot.
The limited edition spread was photographed by Mario Sorrenti as part of the magazine’s 2019 #BAZAARICONS; actors, models and musicians who “have shifted perceptions by resisting established, avoiding the accepted, and breaking every rule they can.”
Dion was chosen by in the fashion director Carine Roitfeld after reinventing herself as one of the power-players of the fashion world. Roitfeld traded Dion’s long honey-brown hair for a dark hairpiece in a short blunt cut and fashions by Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen.
The spread has garnered mixed reviews, with many unsure what to make of the “My Heart Will Go On” singer’s new status as a fashion muse and icon.
“Celine we love you, but you can’t pull this fashion thing,” one disapproving follower commented on the star’s Instagram post revealing the new photos. “Madonna can do this fashion and succeed in a tasteful way but this is not working for you.”
Some said they much preferred Dion’s look before the death of her late-husband René Angélil. As one follower wrote, “Don’t really like this new Celine. She’s changed so much. She’s looking too thin, which makes her look older. I much prefer my René’s Celine.”
Despite the criticism an overwhelming amount of Dion’s fans are supportive in her newfound love of fashion and experimenting with different looks.
“I love how Celine Dion continues to evolve,”a fan said in praise of the transformation. “More powerful than ever. She has a strength that cannot be touched!”
“A queen of all generations, don’t stop doing you,” another said in Dion’s defense. “For people tearing this down, you need to look at it from a fresh perspective. We love a change. Bring the look.”
