American rapper and songwriter Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar aka Cardi B has been sentenced to 15- day of community service after she pleaded guilty to assault charges levelled against her.
The 29-year-old was involved in a brawl at Angels Strip Club in New York in 2018.
She was slammed with 12-count charges which include third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment.
The rapper appeared before the Queens district court in New York on Thursday, thereafter pleaded guilty to the two misdemeanor charges leveled against her.
The court, however, dismissed the other 10 charges, which include two felonies, against her.
During the court session, prosecutors said the mother of two threw objects, including champagne bottles, at two sisters who were bartenders at the club.
They also said the rapper led her team to attack the women over the allegation that one of them was dating her lover, Offset.
Melinda Katz, the judge, in a statement after sentencing the rapper, said “No one is above the law”.
It is understood that the rapper agreed to the plea deal with the court to avoid a lengthy trial.
Reacting to the sentencing in a statement, the rapper admitted she “made some bad decisions” in the past.
“Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it’s a practice that I am trying to instill in my children, but the example starts with me,” she said.
“I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to. These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now.
“I’m looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most – the music and my fans.”
