Lagos Hoteliers Association (LHA) has pleaded with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to streamline functions of ministries, departments and agencies to avoid duplication of task and functions.
LHA said this in a congratulatory message signed by state President, Oluomo Talabi and General Secretary, Robert Obire, on re-election of Sanwo-Olu.
It believes harmonising their operations would eliminate multiple taxation.
The statement reads: “We wish to congratulate you on your wre-election. This was made possible by the support of stakeholders, such as Lagos Hoteliers Association and your laudable achievements.
“Now the elections are over, we wish to remind you of our ‘Charter of Demand’ submitted to you earlier for your consideration.
“We urged you to streamline functions of ministries, departments and agencies to avoid duplication of task and functions. We seek elimination of multiple taxation, reduction of rates of levies.
“LHA will be glad to see members facing consolidation of taxes and levies to be paid. It will be a welcome idea if payment should be by instalment. We are also hoping provision of soft loan for members to improve and expand business will be considered.”
The body said inclusion of president and state general secretary as members of state tourism board will promotE the state.
“Inclusion of our president and state general secretary as members of Lagos State Tourism Board won’t be a bad idea. We also want empowerment of our association by making it compulsory for micro, small and medium scale hotels to register and be members. This will make it easier for LHA to assist government to maintain approved standards through peer review mechanism…”
‘“As responsible citizens, our members must be treated with civility by agencies and use of security personnel to threaten and harass members must stop. Due process must be followed in sealing the premises of our members who default in payment or infringe on the law.
“We are positive that implementation of the above charter of demand will lead to a mutually beneficial relationship between the government and the association. We wish the governor a successful second tenure as the Executive Governor of Lagos State.”
