
GTBank-Ogun State Principals Cup begins
The 5th GTBank–Ogun State Principals Cup tournament kicks off this week with over 400 secondary schools from both the private and public sectors taking part.
Organisers of the competition, Media vision said, the tournament which involves both male and female teams will begin in four zones on a yet to be announced date, this week.
Addressing a pre-tournament press conference at the Ogun State Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, GTBank CSR Officer, Tolulope Onipede said the tournament was a platform provided by the bank for budding stars to exhibit their talents and be discovered and groomed for the future.
It is a platform that has been created for young talented students to achieve their dreams,” she said. Also speaking at the conference, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Elder Akinsolu Martins who represented the state Commissioner for Education, said the ministry has zero tolerance for the use of mercenaries.
“The ministry frowns at the use of mercenaries and any school caught in the act would summarily be disqualified from the tournament and sanctioned accordingly.” The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Honourable Moruf Afuwape re-echoed what his education counterpart said when he stated, “we in Ogun State have a standard; we play by the rules.”
