Non-academic staff of the Taraba State University, TSU, Jalingo, have threatened to embark on a total and indefinite strike if the state government fails to implement the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance, CONTTA, within 14 days.
The threat was contained in a communiqué issued by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Taraba State University, Jalingo branch, at the end of its emergency congress meeting held on Thursday.
In the communiqué, the association expressed disappointment over what it described as the delay and failure of the Taraba government to implement the CONTTA, despite several committee meetings and assurances.
SSANU said its members had exercised considerable patience while waiting for the government to fulfil the agreement between the federal government and the association, but regretted that their patience had not yielded any positive result.
The union consequently issued a 14-day ultimatum to the state government, demanding the immediate implementation of the allowance to avert a total and indefinite industrial action.
It also cited the implementation of the agreement in other state-owned universities, including Adamawa State University, Mubi; Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi; Gombe State University; Nasarawa State University, Keffi; Kwara State University, Malete; Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti; and Osun State University, Osogbo.
The ultimatum was signed by the branch Chairperson, Bitrus Joseph Ajibauka and Secretary, Offen Stephen Noseh, on behalf of the association.
