MTN Nigeria has become the first Nigerian telecom operator to reach 100 million subscribers. This is according to the latest industry data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), covering subscriber numbers for July 2026.
MTN was the biggest gainer among Nigeria’s operators during the month, adding more than 1.2 million new users. Its total subscriber base now stands at 100.9 million, giving it a 52.1% share of the country’s total telecom subscriber base.
Airtel held on to second place with 66.76 million subscribers after adding more than 600,000 new users in July. Globacom remained third with 23.63 million subscribers, having lost 54,000 subscribers during the month. T2mobile, formerly known as 9mobile, stayed in fourth place with 3.61 million subscribers.
July marked the first month in four in which T2mobile recorded a rise in subscriber numbers, after its count held steady at 3.54 million between April and June.
Total telecom subscribers across Nigeria’s four networks rose to 195.1 million in July, up from 192.23 million in June.
MTN Nigeria also led on mobile internet subscriptions, with 84.1 million users and a 53.5% share of the segment. Airtel followed with 56.8 million mobile internet subscribers, while Globacom trailed with 15.6 million.
T2mobile’s internet subscriber count also rose for the first time in four months, reaching 810,000.
Total internet subscribers on mobile networks across Nigeria increased from 156.4 million in June to 157.3 million in July.
Data consumption in the country hit a new high of 1.66 million terabytes in July, marking four consecutive months of growth.
Broadband subscriptions rose to 124.4 million, taking broadband penetration to 57.4%.
