The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is expected to release the results of the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates today, August 4, as previously announced by the examination body.
Candidates can access their results online via the WAEC Result Checker mobile app or by SMS.
To check results online, candidates will need their 10-digit examination number, a valid WAEC e-PIN and its serial number, and an internet-enabled device.
The WAEC Result Checker e-PIN costs ₦5,000 and serves as the access key to the council’s result portal. According to WAEC, scratch cards purchased in previous years remain valid and can be used up to five times for a single candidate’s examination number. A separate card is required for each candidate.
How to buy a WAEC e-PIN
Candidates can purchase an e-PIN by visiting the WAEC online portal, selecting the “Buy WAEC Result Checker” option, choosing the appropriate examination type, entering the required details, and completing the ₦5,000 payment. The serial number and PIN will be issued immediately after payment.
How to check the result online
To access the result online, candidates should:
Visit the official WAEC result portal.
Enter their 10-digit examination number.
Select the 2026 examination year.
Choose the appropriate examination type.
Enter the e-PIN and serial number.
Click the “Submit” button to view the result.
Checking through the mobile app
Candidates may also download the WAEC Result Checker app from the Google Play Store, enter their examination details and e-PIN information, and access or download their results directly from the application.
Checking by SMS
Candidates without internet access can check their results by sending an SMS in the format:
WAEC Examination Number PIN*Examination Year to 32327 using an MTN, Glo or Airtel line. Standard SMS charges apply.
Understanding the grading system
WAEC grades range from A1 to F9.
A1, B2 and B3 indicate distinction and merit.
C4, C5 and C6 are credit passes.
D7 and E8 are ordinary passes below credit level.
F9 indicates a fail.
For admission to most Nigerian universities, candidates must obtain at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, with C6 the minimum acceptable credit grade.
