Nigerians seeking international study opportunities have several major scholarship programmes opening or accepting applications from August 2026 through the end of the year.
Among the most anticipated are the United Kingdom’s Chevening Scholarships, the Open Doors Russian Scholarship Project organised by the Global Universities Association, and the Knight-Hennessy Scholars programme at Stanford University in the United States.

What it covers: Full tuition, monthly living allowance, return economy flights, arrival and departure allowances, and visa costs.
Eligible fields: Any one-year taught Master’s at UK universities (three course choices required).

The Open Doors Russian Scholarship Project, organised by the Global Universities Association, offers tuition-free study opportunities at participating Russian universities.
The competition is open to foreign citizens, including Nigerians, across bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral tracks.
Participation is entirely online and free.
According to the organisers, more than 146,000 applicants from 185 countries have participated in previous editions, with over 6,300 winners.
Registration for the 2026 competition opens on August 20 and runs until November 13, 2026.

- Knight-Hennessy Scholars (Stanford University, United States)
Applications are also open for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars programme at Stanford University.
The fully funded scholarship supports graduate studies across Stanford’s schools.
Applicants must submit two separate applications—one to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars programme and another to their chosen Stanford graduate programme.
The Knight-Hennessy application deadline is October 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
Applicants must also meet the admission deadline for their Stanford graduate programme or submit their graduate programme application by December 1, 2026, whichever comes first.
