Trinity University Holds Matriculation, Convocation

Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos has announced plans to hold its fourth convocation on Friday.

The event also coincided with the institution’s eighth matriculation billed for Wednesday.

The varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole, made the announcement at a press conference to kick off the ceremonies yesterday.

He said 200 students from the Faculties of Arts, Social and Management Sciences (101), Basic and Applied Medical Sciences (64) and Nursing Sciences (35) would be receiving their degrees at the convocation.

He added: “In all, 51 students made First Class degrees, 61 obtained Second Class Upper Division, 55 obtained Second Lower Division, while four had Third Class.

“In addition,12 students of our Centre for Addiction Science and Behavioural Psychology will be receiving their diplomas at the convocation.’’

He described the occasion as the celebration of scholarship and excellence, adding that it is an occasion for them to ‘’release to the world the worthy ambassadors of Trinity University, to go and deploy their intellect, scholarship, research capabilities, skills-set, creativity and other endowments to make impact and a difference, and to contribute to lifting up humanity and making the world a better place’’.

Ayodele also said: ‘’At Trinity University, we are raising globally equipped and relevant graduates as assets to the world and as change agents.  

‘’Within this week as well, we shall be having our eighth matriculation, making it a double celebration for the university.

‘’This is a moment of great triumph and celebration for our university, as we will be acknowledging and celebrating the hard work and dedication of our graduating students, who have successfully completed their academic programmes, and are making their families proud.

As a university, our sense of accomplishment is palpable, as this represents another testament that the university’s mission to provide quality education, and shape the next generation of leaders, is being fulfilled.’’ 

‘’Today,’’ the vice chancellor said, ‘’there would be student and alumni activities, providing opportunities for student creativity, interactions and shows, as well as for alumni networking, reminiscing, and making new memories’’.

He urged the alumni to attend to enable them to reconnect with old friends, and make new connections that would enrich their lives. It’s a chance to relive memories and create new ones, he said.

Tomorrow, the new students of the 2025/26 academic set, will matriculate. This would be followed by a lecture featuring the Vice-Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Prof. J. B. Ayodele, who would speak on ‘’Coping with the challenges of University education in Nigeria: The role of psycho-social adjustment’’.

On Thursday, the Convocation Lecture would be delivered by the Senior Pastor/founder, The Covenant Nation, Poju Oyemade, who would speak on: ‘’Innovation is the key to the future.

This would be followed by a thanksgiving to be anchored by Pastor Samuel Adepitan Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. .

On Friday, the students would be conferred with their degrees and diplomas.

Assessing their performance in the last one year, Ayodele gave the workers a pass mark

‘’Trinity University has made progress in many areas of its operations between March 2025 and March this year. The university, in its quest for relevance and response to the needs of the society, has introduced four new programmes – cyber security, biochemistry, tourism and hospitality management, and courier and logistics management to the programmes on offer.

“We have also commenced a well-structured and functional Skills Acquisition Academy to expose our students to all-round education that will take them away from the unemployment/underemployment circle that is currently rocking the world.

“Similarly, the university has signed memoranda of understanding with agencies and institutions that share our core values and are willing to partner with us in our desire to continue to respond positively to the demand of our clients and produce students that have acquired skills that will help them to be job-creators, in addition to their degrees.’’

On staff development and advancement, Ayodele said: ‘’The university encourages staff members to attend conferences and build networks for professional growth. Staff are supported to participate in international conferences and exchange programs, and are encouraged to build networks for growth and publication. The university will be hosting the Lagos Studies Association conference, in June 2026, providing opportunities for staff to network and develop skills. Staff promotions and day-release programmes for Ph.D. completion are also part of the university’s staff development initiatives.

Students are urged to socialise and develop talents outside academics. They participate in competitions, seminars, and politics through the Students Representatives Council (SRC), the VC said.

The university also urged its students and staff members to participate in sports.’’Students have participated in inter-university competitions, winning medals in volleyball, football, table tennis, and other events. The university seeks to offer sports scholarships and equip students with sporting equipment and facilities. We are appealing for support from well-meaning Nigerians to achieve this aim,’’ he said.
