Two scholars at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) have received scholarship awards granted by the German Academic Exchange Services.
Beneficiaries of the awards, a PhD student of the Department of Chemistry, Mr. Abdulhakeem Olasupo and Mr Bolaji Fakorede, an M.Sc alumnus of Department of Soil Science and Land Resource Management of FUOYE were selected based on merit in recognition of their outstanding researches and contributions to their respective fields.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is under the Research Grants in Germany Programme for 2026.
According to an official communication from DAAD, Mr. Olasupo was selected for the scholarship following the recommendation of the responsible selection committee. The award will support his research stay in Germany for a period of six months, further strengthening international research collaboration and academic exchange.
Mr. Olasupo is currently a PhD student in the Department of Chemistry at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, conducting his doctoral research.
Mr. Fakorede, who currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in the department, obtained his Master of Science (MSc) degree under the tutelage of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayom Fasina and Prof. T.S Babalola distinguished scholars in the field of soil science and land resources management.
According to an official communication from DAAD, Mr. Fakorede was selected for the scholarship under the Doctoral Programmes in Germany after a rigorous selection process and the recommendation of the responsible selection committee. The award provides him the opportunity to pursue advanced doctoral studies in Germany.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, expressed delight over the achievement, describing it as a testament to the growing research strength and global relevance of the University.
Prof. Ogunwole commended the students for their dedication and academic excellence, noting that the international recognition reflects the quality of mentorship within the institution’s academic community.
The Vice-Chancellor further reiterated the University’s commitment to promoting international collaborations, research mobility, and academic excellence among staff and students.
The DAAD Research Grants Programme supports outstanding postgraduate researchers from around the world, enabling them to conduct research in Germany and foster global academic partnerships.
