G-Shock Debuts a New Definitive “CasiOak,”

…Now with Even Stronger Royal-Oak Styling

Like many iconic timepieces, the G-Shock 2100 Series watch goes instead by a clever nickname.

The so-called “CasiOak” is widely considered the brand’s most refined design to date, thanks in no small part to its striking similarity to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

There’s the octagonal case. An integrated bracelet. Now it even has a textured dark-blue dial, akin to the most representative Royal Oak variants.

The MRG-B2100D-2A is the latest entry into Casio’s high-end Mr-G lineup, and the closest thing collectors may ever get to its iconic namesake.

Naturally, Casio is coy about the two models’ connection.

According to the brand, the inspiration for this specific reference was an ancient pagoda in the Yamagata Prefecture (the region where Mr-G models are made).

It calls the dial color “hanada-iro,” a traditional Japanese blue grounded in the country’s deep ties to indigo-dying.

As for the specific texture, it matches the kigumi pattern of other Mr-G “CasioOaks,” separating it from the tapisserie dials found on the Royal Oak.

Of course, there’s more to this watch than dashing good looks.

The case and bezel consist of nearly 30 separate components, with a titanium carbide coating for improved scratch resistance. Casio also opted for Cobarion and DAT55G, two high-performance alloys for the top bezel and bracelet, respectively.

Availability and pricing

The MRG-B2100D-2A debuts in Japan this month with a price of 572,000 yen (nearly $3,600), with a stateside launch expected to follow.

Though expensive by G-Shock standards, the reference remains an affordable alternative to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. That watch starts north of $20,000, with many variants exceeding six figures.
