NSUK VC Urges Synergy With Govt For Academic Excellence

The Vice Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman has called for a tripartite collaboration involving the academia, industry sector, and the government in order to achieve academic  excellence

Arewa PUNCH reports that the VC made the call on Monday at the university during a public lecture and interactive workshop organised by Triple Helix Nigeria in collaboration with NSUK.

Speaking on the theme: “Building Innovation Ecosystems in Nigerian Universities: The Triple Helix Imperative,” Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Mohammed Maikano Ari said the theme perfectly aligns with the vision and aspirations of the university.

“It is for these reasons that NSUK is partnering with THN to achieve its dream of spearheading research, innovation, and enterprise for economic growth.

“The THN has been a reliable partner to NSUK. I recall with nostalgia in October 2025, when we were not only invited to the THN Second SciBiz Annual Conference but were intentionally encouraged to send 10 researchers from the university to participate in the conference. The team was led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) on my behalf.

“Again, it is worth noting with humility and appreciation that all the panelists penciled for today’s discussion are closely connected to us – our regulator (NUC), our co-funder (TETFund) and reliable partners (NITDA, NASENI, and CCS Farms) with whom we share visions, aspirations and even mandate,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor explained that the Triple Helix as a model emphasises collaboration when it comes to universities, the industry, and the government to drive innovation and economic growth.

According to her, the key strategies for achieving the objectives of the model are essentially: interdisciplinary research that encourages cross-faculty collaboration; industry partnerships through the development of internships, joint research, and transfer of technology.

She urged the government to enact innovation-friendly policies and funding while also advocating for entrepreneurship culture that would promote startups and innovation hubs.

The VC noted that NSUK is advancing beyond the THN’s Triple Helix as advocated in the theme of the Ninth Annual Research Fair and Exhibition held in October 2025: “The Quadruple Helix Imperative: Shaping the Future through University—Industry—Community-Government Partnerships for Capacity Building”.

Prof Sa’adatu Liman narrated that the event brought together stakeholders from the academia, the industry, government, and the community to deliberate on the future of innovation, research commercialisation, and collaborative growth.

Therefore, she emphasised that “Building innovation ecosystems requires collaboration, commitment and working together to drive Nigeria’s development through Quadruple Helix Imperative. It is in this view that the university requests the continued assistance and support from our partners, including NASENI, NITDA, and Triple Helix Nigeria, to nurture us to a state that would make us highly enterprising.”

On her part, a board member at the Triple Helix Nigeria and Director, Academic Planning, Research and Control at the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Eucharia Oluchi Nwaichi, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and Management of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, for their partnership, openness, and shared commitment to advancing knowledge that translates into innovation, policy relevance, and societal Impact.

She explained that the programme was not just an academic gathering but a strategic platform for dialogue, co-creation, and solution-oriented engagement.
