Ododo Inaugurates Student Hostel In Kogi

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has inaugurated a hostel facility in Eika Adagu, Okehi Local Government Area, executed by the Dr Abdullahi Mustapha Foundation.

Mustapha is the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, Ododo said such gestures would advance education, strengthen community development, and promote economic empowerment.

He urged well-meaning individuals and organisations to support government efforts by investing in people-centred projects.

Aside from the hostel, the governor also inaugurated the Kahal Hall in Inoziomi, Adavi Local Government Area, and the DAM Civic Centre at Ebegogo, also in Adavi LGA.

In his remarks, Mustapha said the new facility is designed to provide safe and conducive accommodation, particularly for students and young people.

“The DAM Civic Centre is expected to serve as a hub for sports, civic engagement, cultural activities, and community interactions, aimed at fostering unity and talent development at the grassroots,” he said.

He added that the hostel would also be available to house athletes.

Furthermore, the foundation staged an empowerment programme for residents across Kogi Central.

Items distributed included bags of rice and beans, sewing machines, solar panels, solar streetlights, solar-powered televisions, writing materials, laptops, and tools for artisans. Start-up funds were provided to widows, while some motorcycle riders and market women received food items.

Mustapha said the initiative promotes hope, opportunity, and long-term development.

He added that it was targeted at fostering economic inclusion, particularly among youths and small-scale entrepreneurs, by providing tools, skills, and financial support to build sustainable livelihoods.

The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, political leaders, and senior government officials, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions and private philanthropy in driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life at the grassroots.
