UDUS Shines At NUGA Zone D Qualifiers

Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto has emerged as one of the standout performers at the just-concluded NUGA Zone D preliminary games, dominating multiple events and sealing qualification for seven sporting categories.

The university earned slots to compete in football, female volleyball, boxing, handball, athletics, swimming, and cricket at the forthcoming NUGA Games in Jos.

At the football final held at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, UDUS stamped its authority with a commanding 2–0 victory over Sokoto State University, courtesy of goals from Jeremiah Samuel and Danjuma Bawa.

Speaking after the qualifiers, Head Coach Jacob Olubayo Atunwa commended the university management for its unwavering support for sports development.

“Now that the qualifiers are over, we’ll intensify training and fine-tune our strategies for the games proper,” Atunwa said.

“I also want to appreciate the management for creating an enabling atmosphere for sports participation and commend our athletes who will represent UDUS with pride.”

UDUS will participate in the NUGA Games scheduled for November 5–16 at the University of Jos with a 54-member contingent, including four officials.
