Nigerian chess champion Tunde Onakoya Leaves Twitter Over Too Much Toxicity

Renowned Nigerian chess champion and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, Tunde Onakoya, has announced his decision to take a break from Twitter (now X), describing the platform as emotionally overwhelming and increasingly dark.

In a heartfelt post shared with his over 500,000 followers, Onakoya expressed the emotional toll the social media space has taken on him, stating:

“This place has grown too heavy for me. As an empathy, I feel too much darkness in the world pressing in. I’ll be stepping away for a while as I must guard my heart.”

The celebrated youth mentor, known for transforming the lives of children in Nigerian slums through chess, said his decision stems from the need to protect his mental and emotional well-being. Onakoya noted that while he is stepping away from Twitter, he will remain active on Instagram and can be contacted via email for urgent matters.
