The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) has achieved a historic double victory at the 9th Huawei ICT Competition Global Final, winning the Grand Prize in both the Networking Track and the Computing Track.
The Networking Track team, Ushana Tersoo, Prince Abojeh, and Manuwa Bala, under the guidance of Dr. Bala Salihu, Director of Information Technology Services (ITS), received a cheque for ₦5,300,000.
In the Computing Track, Engr. Raphael Agboola of ITS led the team of John Olorunsogo, Wisdom Matthew Urangyork, and Victor Akande, who also received ₦5,300,000 for their winning performance.
The awards were presented during the 2025 Huawei Job Fair and Awards of Recognition held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Uno Essang Uno, commended Huawei Technologies for its enduring partnership with FUT Minna in advancing Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Prof. Kuta noted that since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2018, facilitated by Mr. Kenneth Igwe, the collaboration has delivered state-of-the-art equipment, financial support, and mentorship that have propelled FUT Minna to international recognition.
Highlighting the University ‘s track record, he recalled previous Huawei ICT Competition successes which include 2018 & 2021: First runner-up (national level), 2023 & 2024: First world rnunner-up (global final, China) and 2025: Two Grand Prize wins in the global final
“These achievements are the tangible results of Huawei’s investment in our students and our institution,” he said, reaffirming FUT Minna’s commitment to the partnership.
In his remarks, Huawei Technologies Nigeria Managing Director Mr. Terrence Wu praised FUT Minna as a “shining example” of the impact of strategic collaboration. He celebrated the students’ achievements as a source of pride for their families, institution, and Nigeria, and pledged continued support through training, internships, and employment opportunities.
The event celebrated outstanding performances by Nigerian students on the global ICT stage, with FUT Minna emerging as one of the most decorated institutions of the year.
