Being The Daughter Of Famous Actors Comes With High Demands – Midebams

 

Rising Nollywood actress, Olamide Ewaoluwatomi Banmeke popularly known in the film industry as Midebams who is the daughter of the famous Yoruba actor, Segun Ogungbe and whose grand-father is the popular movie icon, Aking Ogungbe can be said to be a naturally born thespian. Her mother Atinuke Ogungbe is also a Nollywood actress. With parents who are grounded in the film industry, one can easily say, she met acting at home.

The actress who started out in the industry as a make-up artist revealed in this exclusive interview with ACADA Magazine that making this bold move to pursue her dream wasn’t a walk in the park.

 

How did you get into acting?

I’m a natural-born thespian. My parents are both actors.  

 

So do you have formal training in acting?

Yes, I did have a formal training to horn my acting skill and developed my talent.

 

Were your parents in support of your chosen career when you first started? 

My parents were in support of my going into acting because they are into acting too.

 

So how has the journey been so far?

It hasn’t been easy but I thank God for growth.

 

What were the challenges you faced when starting out?

This is a deep question. Before starting my acting career, I first started as a makeup artist. As a makeup artist who is transitioning into acting, it wasn’t a walk in the park. L faced various challenges adapting to new roles and the expectations are high working with diverse personalities. Navigating these dynamics has been a key learning experience for me.

 

What was it like being the daughter of a famous actor?

It was amazing and a big blessing which comes with a lot of pressure because the expectations are high. People sets high standards for people like us because of the successes of our parents and one is constantly under that pressure of not wanting to disappoint.

 

Your late grandfather, Akin Ogungbe is an industry icon, do you have any fond memories of him?

Sure I do have wonderful and happy memories of him.

 

Do people give you special preference to cast you for roles because of your dad?

Yes, some people do give me opportunity to showcase my talent because of my dad.

 

Will you say your dad’s popularity has influenced over your career growth? I will say yes to that, but and my hard work and diligent has brought me this far.

 

How many movies have you starred in so far, and their names?

I have featured in a couple of movies like Oja-ole, Ede, Emialaise, Iwotunwosi and 777.

 

Your family background and education.

My growing up still with my grandma I want to Paul Nursery and Primary School and for my secondary education, I went to Igbore High School. I had my tertiary education at International Open University.

Can you share with us some of your memorable moments growing up?

Wow! One of the moments was when they told me then that my Aunty was getting married and I am the one that will be reading the Engagement Letter because I know people will spray me money. I was also among the flower girls. It was a happy and memorable moment.

 

Your experience again. What was it like during your campus days?

It was tough stressful, but God take the control 

 

What is style to you?

My style is about immersing myself in the character and bringing authenticity to the role

 

What are your favourite fashion items?

I love bags, hair and shoes.

 

What part of your body do you consider as a selling point?

I will say my face. I get compliments about it a lot. 

 

What’s your take about bullying in the industry, especially by senior colleagues?

In my own point of view, I think some of them don’t want you to grow some don’t want you to be like them even if you looking up to them

 

Have you been bullied by anyone before and how did you handle it?

Yes, in the industry there was an actress I did a makeup for on set that very day but she later saw another actress face and she started making drama and was asking that why is the other lady’s make up more beautiful than hers.

 

Your take on Sex for Roles in the industry.

It’s not an ideal thing. People should not be discouraged to showcase their talents with such conditions before they can be giving a chance.

 

Has any director or producer demands sex from you in exchange for a movie role?

No, I’ve never experienced such.

 

When not on location or working, how do you relax?

I love to take myself out to places that are quiet and serene.

 

Are you a romantic lady?

Yes, of course.

What do you look out for in a man?

Someone who is God fearing, responsible and very understanding.

 

Aside from acting, are you into some other form of business?

I am also a Fashion Designer.

 

Who are your role models or senior colleagues that you admire in the industry and why?

 Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi and Ibrahim Chatta are my role models. They know how to act and they have determinations if they want to get something in the movie they should get.
