Varsity Expels Five, Suspends Others For Bullying, Truancy

Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo, Cross River, has expelled five students and suspended five others for bullying, truancy, and misconduct. The university emphasized that this action reinforces its strict zero-tolerance policy on such offenses.

The decision, made public by the acting Registrar, Lady Mary Dan-Abia, was the result of disciplinary hearings held after two incidents of fighting and gang bullying on December 12, 2024, and January 18, 2025. The students involved were summoned to appear before the university’s disciplinary panel on January 20, 2025.

Following a thorough review of evidence, the panel, in consultation with key university officials, expelled five students directly involved in the incidents. Additionally, five others were suspended for varying durations—three for one month and two for two weeks. These students have since vacated the campus.

The decision follows a recent address by the Chancellor to the student body, urging them to avoid vices and misconduct. The Chancellor had also stated that any student caught using, possessing, trafficking, or smuggling drugs on campus would face automatic expulsion.

Dan-Abia stated, “The verdict serves as a deterrent to other students, reminding them that respect for others and adherence to the university’s rules are non-negotiable. No student is above the rules.”
