How Funke Akindele Inspired My Foray Into Skit Making – Mooreshola

Her comedic materials stemmed from day-to-day happenings around her which she uses to create contents with a humorous twist. Akinrogunde Omoshola Kikelomo popularly known in the industry as Mooreshola is one of the rising stars in the Nigerian skit making space. In this exclusive interview with ACADA Magazine, she shared her sojourn into the industry and her plans for the future.

 

How did you get into skit making?

I was inspired by Funke Akindele’s resilience and work ethics. She’s one celebrity I watched closely and noticed her knack for perfection. And of course her comical character, Jenifa. All these inspired me to give skit making a shot and thank God, it’s been one of the best decisions of my life.

What made you choose skit making as a career?

It’s actually what I love doing though I started making skits for the fun of it but when I saw that people were actually liking my contents I decided to take it up as a career. Aside this, I want to do things that can teach people lessons about life.

 

What type of skits do you do, why and What makes your skits unique?

I mostly do tragi-comedy. I create contents that deals with life, especially tragedies which people can learn from.

 

Were your parents in support of your chosen career when you first started?

Yes, they were in support of it. Since they themselves do watch skits on their phones and also because of the type of skits I make which are mostly not just for fun and laughter.

 

So how has the journey been so far?

It’s not really been cool, like every other career, it has its own ups and downs but I’ve been able to survive basically because of my passion for what I’m doing.

 

What were the challenges you faced when starting out, and how did you overcome them? 

The major challenge I had was finance issues, but along the line, some of my fans started showing me love and supports me financially.

 

In terms of comments and viewership of your skits, how will you access your growth?

It’s been a steady rise. I got more view and ignore some hate comments so I keep pushing.

 

How will you describe the impact social media has played in terms of your career progression?

Social media has played a big role because that what gives us the platform to churn out our materials. Social media platforms have actually made things easier. You post your skits, people get to watch and make comments, funny ones at that, and often times, these skits go viral.  It has helped in giving me fame and fans support.

So who are your role models in the industry? 

I have some couple of people I look up to in the entertainment industry. People like Funke Akindele, Mercy Johnson, Toyin Aimaku and of course Portable Omolalomi.

Of course Portable. He’s a smart guy who knows how to give his fans contents on socials.

 

What is style to you?

Style to me is making statements with my fashion. And I mostly create my pattern of style. I don’t like following the crowd and love to be distinct.

 

What are your favourite fashion items?

I love clothes and shoes.

 

Your signature perfume.

My signature perfume is 24k because it’s luxurious and exotic.

 

Do you have a particular beauty regimen?

I exfoliate to make my skin clear and fresh.

 

What’s your take about cyber stalking and online bullying? 

cyber stalking and online bullying are terrible things and I’m highly against it and not in any ways in support of it.

 

Have you been bullied by anyone before and how did you handle it? 

Yes, I have. I blocked the person to avoid provocations that can lead to negative vibes.

 

Are you a romantic lady?

Yes of course! I am romantic and loves to be pampered as well.  

 

What do you look out for in a man?

I love a man that Been hard working man, supportive 

 

Aside from skit making, are you into some other form of business?

Yes, I sell clothes and fashion items.

 

What advice would you give to young minds out there seeking opportunity in skit making and content creation?

Firstly, you need to be passionate about this and be consistent with it because starting out, you may not find things easy and it is your passion that will be driving you to move on, and to also have this at the back of their mind, that passion is like an investment. Many do not see it so, but passion is an investment. The more you keep doing what you love doing, the more you are investing in yourself, because you become better each day, and a day will surely come that your passion will pay off. When you invest into what you love doing, over times it brings reward beyond your wildest imagination.  

How do you come up with contents? 

Coming up with contents is not an easy task. You need to do lots of research before production, and producing itself is not easy, but people love and appreciate what I do, and this inspires me a lot. Most times, I create contents from happenings around me. Feedbacks from people also motivates me and inspires me. 

 

What are your dreams and goals?

It’s to become more famous and to be able to help others.

 

What’s your take about the current status of the Nigerian entertainment industry? 

The Nigerian entertainment industry is booming, with significant growth and global recognition in 2024. Breakthroughs and achievements which includes the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, “The Tribe Called Judah,” which earned over N1 billion from ticket sales within 20 days of its release. The industry also witnessed a record-breaking number of Grammy nominations, with eight Nigerian superstars, including Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, receiving nods.
