The Chancellor of Covenant University at Ota in Ogun State, Dr. David Oyedepo, has urged the Federal Government to improve funding of the education sector to reduce persistent strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Oyedepo said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Ota.
The chancellor emphasised the need to increase annual allocation to education as most of the infrastructure across the public universities is in dilapidating state.
This development, the religious and education leader said, contributed to incessant strikes embarked by ASUU.
“The continuous strike across the tertiary institutions has made the value of education to be dropping,” he said.
Oyedepo noted that the problem had lingered for long in the country’s education sector, thus destroying the destinies of many youths.
He added that the Federal Government needed to make concerted efforts to invest more in education, if the nation really wanted to achieve the desirable national development.
