The Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara has secured both National and West African accreditation for its Surgery department, marking a crucial advancement in the hospital’s medical services.
This was disclosed by the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, during a press briefing in Asaba on Tuesday after a strategic meeting between Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, officials from the hospital, and the Nigeria Medical Association.
Onojaeme, who commended the hospital’s leadership, said, “The hospital is presently working towards securing accreditation for other key departments, including Internal Medicine, Radiology, and Community Medicine.”
He further noted that the recent accreditation for the Surgery department is only the beginning, with ongoing efforts to achieve similar recognition for Radiology, Dental, and Internal Medicine departments.
Speaking on the hospital’s progress, the Commissioner stated that DELSUTH’s recent achievements are a testament to both state government support and the institution’s improved internally generated revenue, which has allowed for the enhancement of its medical services.
“The leadership of DELSUTH, alongside the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), DELSUTH chapter, met with Governor Oborevwori to express their appreciation for the strides made so far,” Onojaeme added.
He further revealed that the governor had approved the purchase of critical equipment for the hospital, including a CT scan, while additional tools such as an echocardiography machine and an MRI scanner are expected to arrive soon.
With these new developments, DELSUTH is set to solidify its position as a top-tier medical institution in the region, offering advanced healthcare services and contributing to the state’s overall health sector growth.
