An outstanding array of top schools in the United Kingdom will be visiting Nigeria to participate in an event, the tenth anniversary exhibition of UK Boarding Schools Week.
It will hold simultaneously in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja between Thursday 19th to Tuesday 24th September 2024.
It is being organised by Mark Brooks Education in conjunction with the UK’s Department for Business and Trade.
According to a statement issued by the organisers, the Lagos events will include an education networking reception and concert from 7pm to 9pm on Friday 20th September at The Wheatbaker, Ikoyi, featuring a chat show with top UK boarding schools and concluding with a mini concert from renowned gospel artist Chee and her band.
“On Saturday 21st September will be the UK Boarding Schools Week Exhibition from 1pm to 5pm also at The Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.
There will be a mini exhibition and reception at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Monday 23rd September from 4pm to 7pm.
Many of the Principals will be running training and workshops at schools in Lagos and Abuja during the week and establishing partnerships that each organisation will benefit from.
The schools range from all-girls to sixth form colleges, specialists in sports, to international providers, institutions on the edge of a city, to those in the heart of the countryside.”
The statement further noted that “the establishments that have been specially invited to attend are those who consistently show a commitment to Nigeria. They demonstrate a quality track record in providing an excellent education, sector leading resources and boarding, alongside superb pastoral care. Many of the schools currently or recently have enjoyed having a Nigerian student as their head boy or head girl.”
The 14 top schools attending are Cardiff Sixth Form College, Cheltenham College, Culford School Downside School, Kingswood School, Lancing College, LVS Ascot, Mount Kelly, Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, Roedean School, Brighton, York, TASIS The American School in England, Truro High School for Girls, and Wellington School.”
Mark Brooks who has been working with families in Nigeria for 16 years, further revealed that the packed programme includes a host of fresh new features.
“It includes a reception for families with presentations from leading figures in the financial advisory sector, a new format for the exhibition, webinars to meet the schools running up to the events, he said.
“Plus there are opportunities for children to sit entrance tests and receive offers during the weekend.”
One of the invited participants Christine Cunniffe from LVS Ascot also expressed excitement about coming to Nigeria.
“I love coming to Nigeria. I have been once before and I can’t wait to come back. Now I know what the country is like and how wonderful it is, I am really looking forward to meeting all the people I met last time and telling everyone about what our lovely school can do.”
