The Great Ife Pharmacy Alumni worldwide will celebrate its 60th (Diamond) Jubilee Anniversary of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State from 3rd to 6th October 2023.
This was made known by the Global Chairman, GIPAA, Mr Lekan Asuni, during a press conference in Lagos.
He said that the Great Ife Faculty of Pharmacy through its high-quality research and teaching had trained close to 4,000 pharmacists who were globally engaged in different sectors of pharmacy and allied professions.
Asuni added that Faculty Alumni were organised under the Great Ife Pharmacy Alumni Association, a non-profit body.
He revealed that its mandates include “To engage the worldwide alumni network of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. To build a culture of Philanthropy and encourage service delivery to the Faculty in particular and the University in general. To develop and sponsor programs of the Alumni that allow for contribution to ‘The Faculty’s strategic goals.”
While speaking on activities lined up for the anniversary, Asuni said, “Mentoring session for Young Pharmacists, Turning the Sod on the Legacy hostel project, keynote lecture, plenary sessions, GIPAA Set meetings, OAU Community Medical Outreach, drug abuse campaign, commissioning of faculty projects by GIPAA/Sets, Pharmacy Graduating Students’ induction ceremony, anniversary closing banquet &awards night, and anniversary thanksgiving service.”
He advised that universal access to healthcare was very important, saying the government should create an avenue where people are diagnosed correctly and given access to pharmacy to get drugs.
