The Chief Magistrates Court in Yaba, Lagos State has adjourned the trial of Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti.
Seun, a son of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has been in police custody since May 15, for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
According to a source at the court, the trial which was slated for today, was adjourned due to Justice Adeola Olatubosun’s absence from the court.
“The trial has been adjourned till tomorrow, May 24 because the judge is not around,” a source told The Nation.
Kuti’s manager could not be reached to confirm this as of the time of filing this report.
He was arrested for assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge. The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba ordered for his arrest.
However, the singer turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja with his lawyer and family representative.
He was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, where he is being detained.
