FUTO VC Warns Students against Gambling

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Chigozie Asiabaka has warned students against the dangers of indulging in pool betting and lottery ventures.

Prof. Asiabaka made this known during the 34th matriculation ceremony of the university held recently.

In his address, the VC noted that the economy misfortune and the get-rich quick syndrome is driving high number of students particularly undergraduates into online betting.

He said the ugly development has engulfed the youths in the society, adding that many students had veered off the track of hard work, dedication and discipline to an unconventional means of making money.

Asiabaka condemned the activities of betting companies and other lottery organizations which he said had created false approach to greatness resulting in some unguided students buying and losing their feeding allowances.

He advised students to avoid shortcuts to success as education is the only key to prosperity.

The VC also warned that the university would not hesitate to dismiss any student caught in fighting, cultism, stealing, armed robbery, kidnapping, destruction of property, drug addiction, hooliganism, examination malpractice, prostitution and advised them to adhere to all the instructions passed to them during the orientation.
