Five Lagos Divisions Set for Battle as Ilupeju Games Begins Next week

All is set for the fifth edition of Ilupeju Township Games (ITG), which will see talents from the five divisions of Lagos State battle for honours next month.

According to the organisers, this edition will hold on a bigger scale with more sports to be competed for by athletes from all towns across Lagos State.

The games include football, basketball, table tennis, para-soccer, javelin, para-powerlifting, handball, volleyball, track, and field (100m, 200m, 400m), relay, long jump and marathon.

Speaking at the unveiling of the fifth edition of Ilupeju Township Games Mascot at the Basketball Court, Industrial Avenue, Ilupeju Estate, the President and Founder, Chief Korede Bisade-Philips, said this year’s competition would be different from the previous ones, as more games are being added to ensure more youth participation, as well as attract many athletes and other dignitaries.

Bisade-Philips, who is the Onipeju of Illupeju, said the 2020 qualifiers would hold from November 2 to 6 in the five divisions namely Ikeja, Badagry, Lagos Island, Epe, and Ikorodu, while the finals will hold from November 23 to 28.

“We assist the talents we discover to get better in terms of training and playing in various sporting clubs in Lagos State,” he said, adding that the choice of Hercules as its mascot was because it represents the strength of the youths.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Liberty Pools Limited, Otunba Olushola Oladejo, said this event would help the state discover new talents, especially in the road race and marathon.

Oladejo, who was represented by the Accountant, Wala Adenaya, said winners of the games would be rewarded with cash and medals, while a certificate of participation will be given to all participants.

He urges interested teams to register to participate in the games while calling for financial support to ensure youths and their talents are developed.
