Lagos Deploys Safety Marshals in Jetties

Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) has reiterated the commitment of the government to safety of lives on waterways.

A statement at the weekend by the Director General, Mr. Lanre Mojola, said LSSC, Office of the Sustainable Development Goals and Lagos State Waterways Authority have trained and deployed 48 COVID-19 volunteers as safety marshals in jetties.

It said the session, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs. Solape Hammond, Director General LSSC Mr. Mojola and General Manager Lagos State Waterways Authority Mr. Damilola Emmanuel thanked the volunteers for devoting their time to service, while reminding citizens that the fight against COVID-19 pandemic was a matter of urgency.

Mojola said the volunteer safety marshals provided by the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals are saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that commuters wear their personal protective equipment, adding that safety briefings would be provided for commuters before trips at jetties.

He said the marshals were trained in safety standards and protocols to ensure the safety of citizens seeking to commute through the waterways.

Mojola enjoined bars, restaurants, spas, hotels and other social centres to ensure they register their business on www.lasgsafetyreg.com.
